Mankind's Fascination with Self-Expression

I just hope everyone had a Merry Chirstmas and a Happy Holidays. I was quite busy and was able to make my dad the clock artwork he has asked for the past two years. Its very contempory and has gone through many changes on layout  and design due to  many things but now it is done and I could not be happier. I hope everyone has a Happy New Year and be safe on New Years Eve.

A few days ago I recieved a letter from EKU stating I was not accepted into the EKU Creative Inquiries Exhibit. It would have been nice to be in the show but it was the first time I applied to be in an art show so I understand that I might not make it in the first time. My work may be good to some, but it still has a long way to grow. No matter what, it is a experience. I'll have more dissappointments, everyone will.

My next attempt at experiences will be for horse ceramic designs. Ten years ago artists decorated large horse sculptures. In the the summer, Lexington will host the 2010 World Equestrian Games. Not only was the horse sculptures popular still to this day, even ten years later. Lexington wants to infuse the community during this time with public art. Now I need to create an amazing design because this would create a name for myself within the community if I was chosen but the experience itself would be enough reward. Wish me luck!

Earlier this semester I rushed for a sorority at EKU. My sister was a Pi Beta Phi. I tried to keep an open mind and not chose Pi Phi just because my sister was in it, but to chose girls that I fit in with. Well I did become a Pi Phi and it has been a great experience. I know I have many more years ahead of me.

In my Concepts of Art and Design class we have been discussing craft as art. I took notes and didn't think too much about a few random notes I put in there until I was studying for my exam this week. I had written down two art and craft camps in the states near-by, one being Arrowmont. Well I go to the site and saw it was in Gatlinburg, TN and I thought it was really familar. After my brain fart, me and my roommate realized that Arrowmont is Pi Beta Phis first philantrophy. Pi Phi found this arts and crafts school. It made me realize that no matter why my sister and me chose Pi Beta Phi, that it is the right place for me. Things just fit into my life perfectly on what I love.I now hoping to take classes at Arrowmont this summer and every summer until I graduate college. I can learn so much about my field and about Pi Phi. It will be a great experience overall that will help me grow as an artist.



This Christmas my loved ones will be recieving some artwork for Christmas, because I am a broke ass. But I love giving people things that I have made for them. I believe its more from the heart. I made my Big Sister in Pi Phi a painted and decopage box and to my lovely sisters of my Pi Phi chapter a oil painting that I knew that they would love. As much as I enjoy being at school, I am looking forward to tomorrow night after my English presentation to go home and enjoy the holidays.

School, work, and all other things really take up alot of time. I feel like I never get to post on here. Though I've been busy, I have been able to devote some of my time to my artwork. Mainly because most of it will be Christmas presents for my loved ones. I'm really hoping all of those works go well. With less than 2 weeks until finals this semester I'm feeling the academic burn. Today I have been studying and doing work for at least 5 hours after my classes. I'm lucky I have been able to get any time to work on art.

Monday I applyed to my first art gallery show. The show will be in the Giles Gallery at EKU. I really hope that I make it in. I entered a collage and a found objects sculpture. With my sculpture I have been improving it lately creating a base for it to improve the balance. I have the images of the work below. Wish me luck!

For a year now things have been unsure. I was having a hard time paying for school and was working full-time. I was taking Elearning classes from Savannah College of Art and Design. Elearning sucked but the classes on campus was awesome. I just couldnt afford the school. Also I was majoring in Graphic Design. I liked it but I was getting bored. It was more work than creating art to me.

After all these thoughts, feelings, and issues, I decided to transfer schools and change my major to Art Education. I am now settled in at Eastern Kentucky University. Midterms are already coming up and Im loving the school. Art might not be the main focus but my current art professor is great and I've seen great professor work. I think everything will be great. My sister also went to EKU and was in the sorority, Pi Beta Phi. I decided to follow her footsteps and also become a Pi Beta Phi. My sisters are great and I know they will help me with my career plans.

So right now I have no studio classes. Its pretty hard to find time for creating my work with everytthing that is going on. Classes, Pi Beta Phi, and still work 15 hours a week in my hometown almost a hour away from school.

I have been working on an acrylic painting of a elephant and should be done soon. Once I do I'll have it posted. I've also looked up art shows either local or in-state that I could possibly try to get in. I really want to build my experience as an artist. I still plan to be a part time artist while Im a teacher. A teacher really needs to do what she teaches if the students want to learn.I kinda want to teach high school art. I really want to help those who want to prusue art or design later in life. High school is a hard time and I think I could help.
